Taxes & VAT
VAT: What is it and does it apply to me?
What is VAT?
The Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax levied on goods and services in many countries, including France. It is calculated on the value added at each stage of production and distribution. In simple terms, it is the tax applied on the final price of a product or service.
Does VAT apply to creators on Privize?
The VAT declaration applies to your earnings if you are based in a country where VAT is mandatory. The rate and rules (e.g., self-assessment mechanism) depend on the country.
Do Privize creators have to pay taxes?
Yes, creators on Privize are responsible for paying taxes on their income.
Creators who earn money through Privize must pay the applicable taxes in their country of residence.
Privize facilitates transactions, but creators are not employees of Privize, and the platform is not responsible for your tax obligations.
Privize does not withhold any taxes from your earnings. All your income is paid in full and appears in your available balance.
⚠️ If you are unsure about the amount of tax to pay, it is recommended to consult a financial advisor or accountant to review your tax situation.
Creators paid to a US bank account:
Your payment partner will verify your tax status and may contact you via email for additional information. According to IRS rules, payment providers are considered electronic payment facilitators (EPFs) and are therefore responsible for issuing the 1099-K form as soon as your gross payments exceed the IRS thresholds ($5,000 in 2024, $2,500 in 2025, $600 starting in 2026). They will electronically file the form with the IRS and send you a copy by email – you have nothing more to do (or fill out the W-8BEN form if you are not a U.S. person).
Creators paid outside the United States:
No W-9 is required. Your local tax authority may request additional information (e.g., VAT number, tax identifier).
